Not only are lamps essential to a well-lit room, but they also impact on a room's overall look and feel. Light your space and showcase your style, with my tips on choosing the right floor and table lamps for you home!
Without proper lighting even the most stylish room isn't complete. Every room needs a combination of the following types of lighting.
Table and floor lamps typically fall under the task/accent lighting category, and play an important role in your home as both functional and decorative items. Size, shape and style need to be taken into consideration when choosing the right light to suit your decor.
Match your decor/style.
When it comes to selecting the correct lamp, "Think of a lamp as part of the jewellery of a room," interior designer Judith Balis says. When it comes to choosing the right lamp, you will have to decide on the style. Are you looking for a traditional, modern or eclectic style of lamp?
If you're going for a modern or contemporary look, think simple when selecting lamps. Lamps with large shades and slim bases will add height to a room without overpowering the decor.
Lamps with tapered shades will blend better with traditional decor, along with lamps that have ceramic bases.
A very important factor to consider when buying a lamp is just how much light you actually need it to give. If you need the lamp to light an entire room then it's best to choose a lamp with a light/ translucent shade. If you just want to use the lamp as an accent piece , try selecting a lamp with a slightly darker shade to create a dramatic look.
When you have selected your lamp, it's deciding where to put them that can be issue. Floor lamps are ideal for corners and reading areas. “ By adding a floor lamp to a dark area/corner of a room it will work wonders on how the room feels.” Multiple table lamps spread out on different pieces of furniture will add warmth.
